Cambodia imposes strict entry conditions

It has been reported that foreign arrivals into Phnom Penh must face probably the strictest and possibly the most expensive Coronavirus testing procedures, as announced by Aun Pornmoniroth, Cambodia’s Minister for Economy and Finance.

In a media statement dated the 8th of June, it was confirmed that foreign visitors would be asked to pay for the cost of initial checks and tests and would be asked to contribute further should the test prove positive.

A date has not been confirmed as to when the measures will start, possibly when international flights resume, but travellers arriving in Cambodia will be required to pay a deposit of US$3,000 to cover testing procedures. This payment is in addition to existing visa and other charges already imposed on foreign visitors.

There is a concern that this approach is a precedent and that other cash-strapped countries around the world will follow and expect foreign visitors to pay towards COVID-19 testing.
