A variation of the successful 900B, the Dassault Falcon 900EX is a spacious and luxurious charter option with upgraded avionics and a longer range than its predecessor.

About this aircraft

  • The Falcon 900EX is a variation of the 900B. Introduced in 1996, the aircraft features improved avionics and upgraded engines that increase its maximum range.
  • The cabin can be configured for 16 passengers, but most are designed to seat 10-14.
  • There’s space for 12 suitcases in the baggage hold.
  • Capable of non-stop journeys from Hong Kong to Istanbul and London to Las Vegas, the 900EX can fly further than the 900, 900B and 900C.
  • Production ceased in 2003 as Dassault switched to the 900DX and 900EX EAsy.
  • The 900EX EASy was produced from 2003-10 with improved avionics and a new cabin pressure controller for additional comfort.

The Falcon 900EX has the 900B’s winning combination of a spacious cabin, short-runway performance and long-distance capabilities, with new engines and avionics increasing the aircraft’s range by over 900 km. Continuing this legacy, subsequent models like the 900DX and 900LX featured more upgrades whilst maintaining the shell of the original 900.

Interior design

The Dassault Falcon 900EX is roomy and comfortable whatever the interior layout. Like the Falcon 900B, standard seating is split into three distinct sections and arranged in a double-club configuration with a three-person divan and full-size private lavatory and galley.

Two seats can be reclined and combined to make a full-length bed, while the others are fully adjustable and can move along a track, swivel and recline. In some configurations, there can be up to three divans in the cabin with two facing each other in the same section. Natural lighting comes from 24 windows.

Below is a configuration commonly found on board a Falcon 900EX.

Interesting facts to learn before you fly

  • The 900EX has the same avionics as the 900C, which was introduced in 2000.
  • The Falcon 900EX EASy has upgraded avionics, a new brake-by-wire system and a new cabin pressure controller for additional comfort.
  • Alternative charter aircraft to the Falcon 900 series include the Gulfstream G450 and Bombardier Global 5500.

Technological features

The lOng-range Falcon 900EX has higher-powered and more efficient engines than the 900, 900B and 900C. Like the 900C, the cockpit features Honeywell Primus 2000 avionics, but it can be fitted with the newer EASy (Enhanced Avionics System) flight deck to give pilots heightened situational awareness.

History

The Falcon 900 was a development on the Falcon 50, itself an upgrade of the earlier Falcon 20. Its design was announced in 1984 and incorporates composite materials throughout. The 900B was produced from 1991-1999 with more powerful and fuel-efficient engines.

Over 150 Falcon 900 and 900B jets were produced before Dassault focused on the 900EX and 900C. Dassault stopped making the 900EX in 2003, while the upgraded 900EX EASy was produced until 2010.

Manufacturer

Dassault Aviation’s history dates back to the dawn of aviation. Marcel Bloch (later known as Marcel Dassault) founded the company following a childhood fascination with aesthetics and innovation and it went on to become one of the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers.

Following the oil shock of 1973-74 and the Iranian crisis in 1979, the global economy felt the impact of rising raw material prices. Dassault bolstered its fundamentals by developing exports of civil and military aircraft against a backdrop of increasingly fierce international competition. Today, the brand holds a special place in the industry as the only global aerospace company still owned by its founding family.

Cost

A pre-owned Dassault Falcon 900EX costs around $9 million (USD). A Falcon 900EX EASy costs between $13.5 million for a 2003 model and $17 million for a 2010 model.
